Are you looking for an exceptional timepiece for your mantel? This high-quality and completely original Louis Hottot clock of museum quality, dating from circa 1850. This magnificent French mantel clock was created by the renowned Parisian master bronze caster Louis Hottot (1829–1905). The movement itself was manufactured by the famous clockmaker Japy Frères. The rare ensemble is protected by the original, monumental glass dome on a black wooden base.

Why this Louis Hottot clock is so unique

The base of the clock consists of a lush, fire-gilded (ormolu) bronze Rocaille cabinet. The sides are inlaid with rare, white porcelain panels. Unique and irrefutable proof of originality is located on the inside: one of these porcelain panels was historically signed by hand in the 19th century by master bronze caster Hottot himself.
The top is adorned with a beautifully patinaed bronze sculpture of a seated young woman in classical attire, tenderly cherishing a dove near an ormolu fountain with ears of corn. The exceptional refinement and chasing in the face and hair testify to absolute top-tier craftsmanship. This makes this specific Louis Hottot clock into a true work of art.

The clock with string pendulum by Japy Frères

The white enameled dial with Roman numerals bears the proud master signature “Hottot F_t A Paris”. On the back, the interior reveals the original stamps of both Hottot and the clock movement by Japy Frères (Grand Medal of Honor). The 8-day movement is equipped with an early and among collectors highly sought-after bunting (silk thread suspension), which strikes the hours and half hours clearly on a bell by means of a count wheel. A rare, beautiful, acoustically pure and untouched jewel.
